She emerges with art!

Finally, finally I have some art to share. My last name is going to be changing soon :D so I am still figuring out all the logistics of that and unsure what to do with this blog! Since its url has my maiden name on it. Thoughts, anyone? Since my last name is changing, I thought I'd also change some other usernames that needed changing too, such as my Ebay username... it's now "yarmalade." Just so you know.
Anyhow, I'm all about the cute these days:

I hope my muse will settle on something and stay there for once. These cute type things have been brewing for a couple of months and I've started doing a bunch of vector work with it too. More on that later as I get better. :) For now, life is crazy busy as I get ready to move house and have a lot of change ahead of me.
I've looked back on the past year of artwork, and it looks like my inner artist just took a long vacation! I have not painted much this year... have hit a lot of pretty major blocks, knowing I need to evolve in some direction that flows instead of always fighting against the current. It got to the point where I absolutely hated drawing, even. Luckily these cute kinds of characters have made it enjoyable to draw again. Especially as my new married life approaches, I've felt some life coming back into the inner artist. I hope that continues to grow!

I love the new work, and I'm happy to see you painting again. I missed seeing updates of what you were working on.

As for the name change, you might want to consider keeping your maiden name for your artwork since you are already established under that name. I have a friend who changed her name when she married, but she still uses her maiden name for her artwork. You don't want to lose clients/customers because they don't know your new name.

Oh, and congratulations on getting married!

Many artist keep their maiden names for work or hyphenate their new name to their maiden name like Beth Hansen-Buth. Please keep this blog no matter the name. It let's us know what's new.

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely be keeping a blog regardless, I've just been really torn over the name thing. Maybe I'll hyphenate it, just for art. I don't know!! It's weird getting married right in the middle of one's art business. :) Most people have told me what you all have said though, to either keep the maiden name or use both.

So cute! I think it would be a good idea to keep using the name for art of hyphenate so people who know your art can still find you. I suppose it would be a bigger deal if you had published any books before.

Thanks ladies!
Mere: Yep, I think I've settled on hyphenating it. If I wanted to I guess I could submit to publishers just under the new name since they don't know me from Adam -- but at least if I hyphenate on the website and such both groups of people can find me, eh?
